Mini One parking brake malfunction

My 2008 Mini One, a diesel, has developed an issue with its electronic parking brake. The handbrake is completely non-functional, and there's a warning light illuminated in the speedometer. The error memory also stores a brake fault. From what I've gathered, the electric motor in the brake caliper is likely defective. Does this sound like a reasonable assessment? Repair cost is estimated at 505€.

The symptoms you describe are indeed indicative of a potential issue with the electric motor within the brake caliper. It is a somewhat common occurrence, especially in vehicles of that age. Have you checked the brake sensor connections for any signs of corrosion or damage? A system glitch might also trigger similar errors. However, given the stored error and warning light, a defective motor is the most probable cause. Has the brake control module been scanned for fault codes?

The brake sensor connections look fine at a glance, but I haven't thoroughly inspected them for corrosion. Where exactly should I be looking for the brake control module? I'm not entirely familiar with its location on this Mini.

Based on your description and the error codes, I concur with your assessment. The electric motor within the brake caliper is the most likely culprit. While inspecting the sensor connections is always a prudent step, the symptoms strongly suggest a motor failure. I would advise against attempting any intricate repairs yourself unless you possess the requisite expertise and tools. Considering the potential ramifications of a parking brake malfunction, it would be best to consult a qualified technician for diagnosis and repair.

Thanks for the input. Turns out the diagnosis was spot on. New motor in the brake caliper, and the parking brake is functioning again. Cost me 505€ as predicted. Appreciate the confirmation.
