Mini One Transmission Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Mini One diesel was experiencing transmission issues, including an engine warning light, transmission errors, emergency mode activation, and grinding noises. The problem was traced to a low transmission oil level, which caused the transmission oil pressure sensor to trigger faults. After topping up the oil and replacing the pressure sensor, the vehicle's performance returned to normal. The core issue was the low oil level affecting the sensor's readings, not a faulty sensor itself.

Interesting, I didn't consider the oil level being the culprit. The error code specifically mentions the transmission oil pressure sensor. Is it common for low oil to trigger that specific sensor? And if it is the oil level, would that cause the grinding noises too? I'm trying to avoid replacing the transmission sensor if I don't need to.

Yep, low oil level can definitely trigger that transmission sensor. The pressure sensor is basically a 'pressure gauge' that monitors the oil pressure in the transmission. If the oil level is low, the pressure drops, and the sensor throws a fault. As for the grinding noises, that could also be related to the low oil, as the gears aren't getting properly lubricated. I'd still recommend getting it checked out by a workshop just to be sure, but low oil could well be your issue.

You nailed it! Took my Mini One to the workshop, and it turned out the transmission oil level was indeed too low, which caused the transmission sensor to throw a fault. They topped it up, replaced the pressure sensor, and cleared the error codes. Runs like a charm now! The transmission sensor itself was fine, but it was simply reporting the low oil pressure. All in, cost me about 365€. Thanks for the heads-up, you saved me a ton of worry!

Whoa, sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my Mini. The transmission was acting all sorts of weird, and it turned out to be a faulty transmission sensor. Is it possible that your gearbox oil level is too low? That would cause the transmission sensor to trigger a fault. Have you checked the oil level?
