Mini Paceman Check Engine Light and Fuel Consumption Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Mini Paceman was experiencing a check engine light and increased fuel consumption, suspected to be due to a faulty inlet VANOS mechanism. The issue was thought to be related to a defect in the camshaft solenoid valves or a power supply problem affecting variable timing. After consulting with others who had similar issues, it was confirmed that replacing the camshaft solenoid valve resolved the problem, eliminating the check engine light and normalizing fuel consumption.

Interesting. Did you also experience any engine misfire? And how did you pinpoint the camshaft solenoid valves specifically? Was there any oil sludge buildup?

No misfire for me, but definitely the low power and the check engine light. I didn't pinpoint it myself; I took it to a workshop. They said it was a common issue and suspected the solenoid valve right away. They did mention something about potential oil sludge if it's been going on for a while, but luckily mine was pretty clean. I'd suggest getting it checked out professionally.

Just a quick update. Took your advice and brought it in. Turns out you were spot on. Replaced the camshaft solenoid valve, and the check engine light is gone, and fuel consumption seems normal again. Thanks for the help!

Check your camshaft solenoid valves. I had similar problems with my Paceman. Check engine light, felt like low power, and my fuel economy went to hell. Could be a simple fix.
