Mini Paceman Diesel Filter Issue

Oh man, that sounds rough. I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane, although it wasn't quite as fancy as your Mini. It also started with reduced engine power and plumes of smoke whenever I tried to accelerate. Have you tried any DPF cleaning additives? I tried a few, but they only helped temporarily. How often does your car do a regeneration cycle? Is it possible that you are interrupting it?

I did consider DPF cleaning, but I read mixed reviews. Some people say it works, others say it's just a temporary fix. Regarding regeneration, I am not entirely sure how often it happens. I do mostly short journeys, so perhaps that is the issue. Is there a way to force a regeneration? Could it also be a sensor fault?

Yeah, the DPF cleaning is a gamble. It might buy you some time, but it's often just delaying the inevitable. Short journeys are definitely bad for the DPF. It needs long runs at higher speeds to properly regenerate. Forcing a regeneration might be an option, but if the filter is already badly clogged, it might not work. And yes, a faulty sensor could definitely be the cause. It might be worth getting a proper vehicle inspection at a workshop to diagnose the root cause before you spend any money. That's what I eventually did with my Megane. They confirmed that the diesel filter was completely shot.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It does sound very similar. I took your advice and brought my Paceman in for a vehicle inspection. The workshop confirmed that the diesel filter is indeed defective. They also found a sensor fault which likely contributed to the problem. I've approved the replacement, so hopefully, I will be back on the road soon. It will be a costly repair, around 1550€, but it is what it is.
