Mini Paceman diesel solar sensor fault

I'm experiencing a rather bothersome issue with my 2016 Mini Paceman diesel. The car's computer is throwing a solar sensor fault, which I've confirmed through diagnostics. This isn't merely an informational error; the heating output is noticeably lower than it should be. I suspect it's not the sensor itself but rather a cable or plug connection issue. Before I delve deeper, has anyone encountered similar problems? Could sensor calibration be involved or is it likely to be a defective car sensor? My local mechanic estimates around 95€ for repair. Any thoughts before I proceed?

I have a similar Mini Cooper. I had a comparable issue with the daylight sensor affecting my heating. Have you tried a simple fault detection reset using an OBD scanner? Sometimes that clears it up.

Interesting. When you say 'similar issue,' was the fault code also related to the solar sensor, and did you also experience reduced heating output? I did try a basic fault reset, but the error reappeared immediately.

Yes, the fault code was specifically related to the daylight sensor. Resetting didn't solve it permanently either. Considering your symptoms and the error code reappearing, I'd lean towards the cable or plug issue, like your mechanic suggested. Probably best to get it checked at the workshop.

Took it to the workshop. As predicted, a defective cable/plug connection to the solar sensor was the culprit. The repair cost came in exactly as estimated, 95€. Thanks for the insight; it definitely steered me in the right direction and saved me a lot of unnecessary diagnostics!
