Mini Paceman starting and cruise control problems

I am experiencing some issues with my 2013 Mini Paceman diesel, and I'm hoping someone can offer some insight. Currently, there is an error stored in the error memory. The gear selection display in the speedometer is non-functional, the cruise control does not engage, and occasionally, the engine refuses to start. My initial thought, based on some research, is a faulty clutch pedal switch. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone encountered similar symptoms? I know that the clutch pedal is a safety mechanism involved in car starting, but I would like to get some opinions before I bring the car to the workshop. I am estimating repair cost of 95€. The vehicle has clocked 17025 km.

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same thing happen with my Mini Paceman. The cruise control packed it in, and sometimes it wouldn't start at all - real pain. I remember a similar error in the memory, something related to the clutch. Did you check the clutch pedal position sensor? It's a safety mechanism, and if it's faulty, it can stop the car from starting. My experience was that the gear selector display went nuts too. Could be a related issue, I guess. It's worth a look before you start tearing things apart. It was a real headache when mine went wrong!

I appreciate the response. When you experienced the issue with your Paceman, was the intermittent starting problem consistent? Meaning, did it occur more frequently under certain conditions, like after driving for a long period or after the car had been sitting overnight? Also, did you attempt any temporary fixes or adjustments before taking it in for repair?

Yeah, the starting issue was totally random. I couldn't nail down any specific cause. Sometimes it would happen after a long drive, sometimes after just popping to the shops. Really frustrating! I didn't try any fixes myself; to be honest, I'm not that confident poking around with the electrics. I took it straight to a workshop, and they sorted it out. From what you've described, it really does sound like that clutch pedal safety switch thing. Probably best to get it checked out professionally. It's a safety feature, and you don't want to mess about with that sort of thing.

It was indeed the clutch pedal switch. The diagnostic confirmed a fault, and after replacement, everything is working as it should. The gear selector display is back, cruise control is functional, and the engine starts without issue. The cable seemed fine but the switch itself was defective. Thank you for your input. It helped narrow down the possibilities.
