Mini Roadster immobilizer problem
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Mini Roadster faced an immobilizer problem where the engine wouldn't start or would start briefly before cutting out. The error memory indicated an immobilizer fault, likely due to incorrect key programming. The suggested solution was to have the key reprogrammed at a workshop, which resolved the issue.

The error memory does point towards an immobilizer fault. You mentioned the security light flashing; was that the only symptom you experienced, or were there any other telltale signs before the car refused to start properly?

Yes, the flashing security light was the main symptom before it completely refused to start. If the error memory indicates an immobilizer fault and you suspect key programming, it might be best to take it to a workshop with the necessary diagnostic equipment. They can confirm the key's programming and reprogram it if necessary. Hopefully, it's a simple fix.

Just an update: it was indeed a programming issue with the key, like a software glitch. A quick re-programming at the workshop and 45€ later, and the Mini Roadster is back on the road. Thanks for the advice; it pointed me in the right direction.

I had a similar issue with my Mini Roadster some time ago. The security light was flashing, and the engine would start for a second then cut out. The car immobilizer seemed to be the culprit. Did you check the error codes? It might give you a clue. It's like a digital handshake failing between the key and the car.
