Mini Roadster start stop issue

Alright, so my 2012 Mini Roadster diesel is giving me a headache. The start-stop system is completely dead. I'm getting an error stored in the system, the engine shuts off as it should, but then refuses to automatically restart, plus a warning light pops up in the speedometer. My initial thought, based on the error, is a heavily discharged or defective car battery. Any insights before I potentially spend 290€ on a new one?

Hmm, that sounds familiar. I have a Mini Cooper, not the Roadster, but I had a similar issue with the Eco mode. The engine start was acting up, and the start-stop system just refused to engage. Have you checked the basics, like maybe the voltage of the car battery?

I haven't checked the voltage directly, but the error memory points towards the battery being the culprit. Is there anything specific I should look for when checking the voltage? Could it also be related to the starter motor?

Okay, so my issue turned out to be the car battery as well. I wouldn't rule out other things, but given your error codes, it seems pretty likely. I'm no expert, but I'd say it's worth getting it properly diagnosed at a workshop before throwing money at it. Could save you some hassle in the long run.

Thanks a lot for your help! It was indeed the car battery. Replaced it, and now the start-stop system is working perfectly again. The final repair cost was about what I expected, so no big surprises there.
