MiTo Sunblind Stuck: Quick Diagnosis & Fix Guide

My sunblind has completely stopped working, it wont move up or down anymore and just stays stuck in one position. The system shows an error code. Has anyone dealt with this sort of sun protection failure before? Its really affecting the car interior comfort, especially on sunny days. Looking for advice before taking it to a shop since my last mechanic visit wasnt great. Driving a 2017 MiTo with about 150k on the clock.

Had the same problem on my 2014 Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.4T. The sunshade repair turned out to be more complex than expected. The car blind motor had burned out from prolonged use, causing complete failure of the mechanism. The issue required removing the entire headliner to access the sun blind assembly. The motor and gear mechanism needed full replacement, not just a repair. The wiring was also damaged where it connects to the motor unit, which explained the error code. This is considered a serious repair since it involves dismantling a large portion of the car interior to access the components. The procedure took about 4 hours at the shop. If you hear grinding noises before complete failure, its typically a sign the motor is failing. The repair involves: Complete headliner removal, Motor unit replacement, New wiring harness installation, System recalibration, Full testing of the mechanism Worth noting that aftermarket motors often fail sooner than OEM parts. For this kind of car interior work, using genuine parts is recommended despite higher costs.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the sunshade repair. Your description matches my issue exactly. Had mine fixed last month on my MiTo and the mechanics also had to remove the headliner to get to the motor. Would you remember roughly how much you paid for the full job? Just want to compare since prices seem to vary quite a bit. Also curious if youve had any other issues with your UV protection system since the repair? My window visor is also making some weird noises now and Im wondering if its related.

Good update on my previous reply. The total repair cost came to 330 Euro at the shop, which covered the motor replacement and labor for the car sunshade system. Since the repair, the sun blind has worked flawlessly, much smoother and quieter than before the failure. The weird noises from your sun visor might be unrelated, as they operate on different mechanisms. However, its worth having it checked since interior accessory failures can sometimes be connected to electrical system issues. My car blind system hasnt shown any problems in the months following the repair. The investment was worth it considering how much the automatic sunshade helps with temperature control and interior protection. The original issue was definitely the motor burning out, and the new one seems much more robust. Just make sure they use genuine parts for any sun visor repairs, thats what made the difference in my case.

Thanks everyone for the input. Finally got my MiTo back from the shop yesterday after dealing with this sun protection issue. The total came to 380 Euro, which included parts and labor. They confirmed it was indeed a burned-out motor, just like mentioned here. The mechanic showed me the old unit, completely fried from years of use. Getting to it was a real pain apparently, took them nearly 5 hours with the headliner removal and all. They replaced both the motor and some wiring that had heat damage. Good news is the UV protection system works perfectly now, way smoother than before. Funny enough, that weird noise from the window visor turned out to be unrelated, just needed some lubricant. The interior accessory system is all good now, and the temperature inside the car is much more manageable on sunny days. Definitely recommend getting it properly fixed rather than living with a broken sunshade like I did for weeks.
