Mobi Overheating Speed Sensor
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Fiat Mobi is experiencing overheating issues and a check engine light, despite normal coolant levels and a clear radiator. The problem may be linked to a faulty speed sensor, which can cause inconsistent radiator fan operation. A diagnostic tool can confirm if the speed sensor is sending incorrect readings to the ECU, leading to fan mismanagement. Visiting a mechanic with the right equipment is recommended to address the issue.

The fan runs, but it's inconsistent. Sometimes it starts immediately, even when the engine is cold. Other times, it lags and only kicks in when the temperature gauge is high. Is that what you saw? How did you know it was the speed sensor?

That inconsistent behavior is exactly what I experienced. The thermal switch was fine, and the temperature control system appeared normal. The workshop diagnosed the speed sensor with a diagnostic tool; it was sending incorrect readings to the ECU, which was mismanaging the fan. I'd recommend a visit to a trusted mechanic with the right equipment to confirm the issue.

I took your advice to my mechanic. You were right – the speed sensor was defective, causing the radiator fan to malfunction. Repair cost was 250€. Thanks for the help!

I had a similar problem with my Mobi. Overheating and check engine light sounds like a faulty speed sensor, which made the radiator fan act up. Does the fan run at all, or does it seem to be running at the wrong speeds?
