Moco ABS Failure

Hey, I'm having trouble with my 2003 Nissan Moco, gasoline engine. The ABS light is on, and it looks like the whole ABS system is down. The error code says it's the lateral acceleration sensor. Could a bad control unit really be the problem? It's a little scary.
