Modus belt handover issue
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Renault Modus diesel is experiencing a belt handover issue at 57599 km, with diagnostics indicating a defect in the belt bringer/handover mechanism. Intermittent belt squeals were noted before the failure, suggesting a potential problem with the idler pulley or tensioner. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the defective belt tensioner, and professional consultation confirmed this diagnosis, leading to an anticipated repair cost of approximately 455€.

There were intermittent belt squeals noted prior. Was the failure gradual, or did it manifest abruptly?

Yeah, the squeal got worse over a couple of weeks then one morning, bam, no more handover. I'd definitely get it checked out professionally. Sounds like the tensioner is shot. I'd say just go to the workshop.

I consulted with a technician, and the diagnosis confirms a defective belt tensioner. The anticipated repair cost is approximately 455€. Thanks; your experience proved invaluable in expediting the diagnostic process.

Hey, I drive a Modus too and had something similar happen. Was there any belt squeal before it totally went out? Wondering if it was the idler pulley or the tensioner itself that failed.
