Modus immobilizer issue

Hi, I'm having a weird issue with my 2010 Renault Modus diesel. It's got around 136,000 km on the clock. The engine won't start. Sometimes it starts for a second then dies immediately. The dashboard security light stays on, and I scanned it and there's an immobilizer error stored. I'm guessing it's something to do with the key programming?

I had a similar problem with my Modus. Does the car turn over, or do you just get a click? When the immobilizer is acting up, the key signal might be weak or non-existent. Have you tried your spare key?

Thanks for your reply! Yes, the car turns over, it just won't stay running. I have tried the spare key, and it's doing exactly the same thing. I am getting an error message and it says that there might be a problem with the car electronics. Is that the same as the security light?

Okay, if both keys are doing the same thing, and you're seeing an error related to electronics along with the security light, it does sound very similar to what I experienced. Best bet is to take it to a workshop, as incorrect key programming can have many origins.

Thanks for the advice! Turns out you were spot on. Took it to a local garage and they reprogrammed the key. Cost me 45€, but it's running perfectly now!
