Modus oil temperature warning light

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2005 Renault Modus (gasoline engine). The engine oil temperature warning light is on, and there's a stored fault code. The oil pressure warning lamp also activates sometimes. Could it be a bad cable or plug connection?

Intermittent oil pressure and temp light, eh? Sounds like a dodgy sensor circuit. Before you chase ghosts, have you actually checked the oil level on the dipstick? Low oil can cause both of those lights to flicker, especially on older cars. Also, what's the mileage? Sensors do fail over time.

The oil level is optimal. The mileage is currently 155022 km. Considering the stored error code and the temperature warning light, does this suggest a sensor malfunction rather than low oil?

Okay, with optimal oil level and that mileage, a sensor failure is becoming more likely than just low oil triggering things. The error code seals it, really. Considering both the temperature and pressure lights are acting up, and you suspect a wiring issue, get it checked by a workshop with diagnostics. You wouldn't want to risk engine damage based on inaccurate sensor readings.

Your diagnosis was accurate! The issue was a defective engine oil temperature sensor, as suspected. The repair cost 95€. The suggestion for workshop diagnostics avoided potential engine harm. Thanks.
