Thank you for your input. I have not yet verified the gearbox oil level, as I wanted to rule out more complex causes, but I will check it today. Did a simple top-up resolve your issues permanently, or did the sensor require attention afterward?

In my case, topping up the gearbox oil level mostly resolved the shifting problems. However, the underlying issue of why the oil level dropped needed addressing to prevent recurrence – a slow leak from the transmission housing seal. If your oil level is low, consider that a symptom rather than the disease itself. After addressing the leak (which I must say was quite the hassle) and replacing the sensor, all of the problems disappeared. All of these lead me to suggest visiting a trusted workshop at your convenience to avoid future issues.

I appreciate the detailed explanation and the shared experience. I checked the oil level; it was indeed low. I visited a workshop, and after a comprehensive inspection, a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor was diagnosed, and the gearbox oil was refilled. Total cost 365€. Thank you for your assistance.

Interesting. I have a Modus myself. Though I haven't faced your precise sensor issue, the symptoms sound eerily familiar to a scenario I experienced when my gearbox oil level was critically low. It's like a car running low on blood. Before diving into sensor replacements, have you checked the gearbox oil level? What was its state? That's the crucial first step, in my experience.
