Mokka engine stalling after fuel filter change

Hi, I'm having a weird issue with my 2013 Vauxhall Mokka (gasoline engine). The check engine light is on, and the engine sometimes stalls when idling. Also, I've noticed a reduction in engine power. It started happening shortly after I changed the fuel filter. I'm wondering if I messed something up there? My Mokka has 47539 km on it.

Sounds frustrating! I had similar symptoms with my old Peugeot after a fuel filter change. Engine light, rough idle like it wanted to quit, and felt like I was towing a boat anchor. Have you checked for any obvious fuel leaks or loose connections around the filter and fuel rail? Maybe you introduced air into the system?

Thanks for the quick reply! No visible leaks, and I thought I tightened everything properly. Where exactly on the fuel rail should I be looking for issues? Could it be the fuel pump itself?

The fuel rail is where the fuel injectors are connected. It's unlikely to be the pump itself if it started right after the filter change, but a pressure drop could be caused by a faulty fuel pressure regulator. My issue ended up being exactly that: a defective regulator after the filter change caused an error entry. Best bet is to get it checked by a workshop to be sure.

Thanks! I took your advice and brought it to a workshop. Turns out it was indeed the fuel pressure regulator, just like you suspected. Apparently, it can get damaged during a filter change if you're not careful. They replaced it for 45€, and now it runs like new!
