Mokka Overheating Slow Warm Up

My 2015 Vauxhall Mokka diesel is playing up. The engine's been overheating lately, and it's taking ages to warm up. Mileage is around 228675 km. Suspecting the thermostat, anyone else had similar?

Sounds familiar! Had a similar headache with my old Renault Megane a few years back. Overheating and slow warm-up were the exact symptoms. Have you checked for any coolant leaks around the thermostat housing or water pump? Could be a sign of a bigger issue than just the thermostat itself. I'm no expert, but that's what I found.

Cheers for the reply! I haven't spotted any obvious leaks, but I'll give the thermostat housing and water pump a good once-over tomorrow. When you say bigger issue, what exactly do you mean? Was it something more serious than just a dodgy thermostat for you?

Yeah, turns out the map thermostat was buggered on mine, as the garage confirmed. Although it presented like a simple thermostat issue, leaving it could have caused head gasket issues later on. So, better safe than sorry, I'd say get it looked at by a proper mechanic to be sure. They can do a proper pressure test and rule out any other potential problems. It'll be worth the peace of mind!

Right you are, I appreciate the advice! I'll book it in for a check-up. Seems like the map thermostat is the likely culprit, and I'll get them to check for any other potential problems while they're at it. Thanks again!
