MOST Bus Fault

Hi, I've got a 2006 Fiat Croma diesel with 175317 km on the clock. Recently, I've run into a MOST bus fault. Basically, the audio system is completely dead – no audio output at all, and the navigation isn't working either. The error memory shows a fault related to the MOST bus. From what I've read, it seems like a control unit on the bus might be defective. Has anyone dealt with this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Fiat Croma diesel experienced a MOST bus fault, resulting in a non-functional audio system and navigation. The issue was suspected to be a defective control unit on the MOST bus. It was advised to inspect the optical fiber cables and connectors, but due to the complexity, professional assistance was recommended. Ultimately, a workshop confirmed the faulty control unit, and the repair cost was approximately 1000€.

Good day. The situation you delineate regarding the MOST bus failure in your Fiat Croma is indeed indicative of a potential issue within the optical fiber network connecting the vehicle's infotainment control units. While it is plausible that a defective control unit precipitates this malfunction, a preliminary diagnostic assessment should encompass a thorough inspection of the optical fiber cables and connectors. Erroneous connections or compromised cabling can readily engender similar symptoms. Have you, by any chance, inspected the physical integrity of these components? Furthermore, could you furnish details regarding any recent modifications or interventions involving the vehicle's electrical system?

Thanks for the detailed response. I haven't checked the physical connections yet. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure where to find all the relevant fiber optic cables and connectors. Are there any specific locations I should focus on, or is it best left to a professional? I also didn't modify anything recently.

Given your level of familiarity with automotive electronics, it would be prudent to refrain from independently manipulating the optical fiber network. Erroneous handling could potentially exacerbate the issue or induce consequential damage to the delicate components. I suggest seeking counsel from a qualified automotive technician proficient in diagnosing and rectifying MOST bus-related faults. While the resolution might entail a financial investment, a meticulous diagnostic procedure conducted by an experienced professional will undoubtedly prove invaluable, especially considering the intricacies of contemporary automotive electronic architectures. The estimated expenditure for such repairs frequently approaches 1000€.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it was a faulty control unit on the MOST bus, just as suspected. The repair cost was indeed around 1000€. Appreciate your help!
