MR2 running rich

Hey, I'm having some serious issues with my 2003 Toyota MR2 (gasoline engine). It's running way too rich. I'm getting reduced power, the check engine light is on, the engine runs rough, my fuel consumption is through the roof, and it jerks when I accelerate. Feels like I'm driving a tractor, not a sports car! Anyone else experienced this?

I had a similar issue with my MR2. Check your injection valves/injectors. A defective injector can dump too much fuel into the cylinder. It's like trying to bake a cake with twice the sugar – it just doesn't work.

Interesting, thanks! Was it obvious when you checked the injectors, or did you need special tools to diagnose the problem?

It wasn't immediately obvious. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. They'll have the tools to properly diagnose which injector is faulty. It's a bit like trying to find a needle in a haystack without a magnet.

You were right! Took it to the shop, and it was a defective injector. Cost me 515€ to get it sorted. Runs like new now. Thanks for the tip!
