Murano Intake Manifold Leak
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Nissan Murano diesel exhibited symptoms such as jerking during acceleration, loss of power, rough idling, stalling, and a strong exhaust smell, accompanied by a check engine light. These issues suggested a potential intake manifold leak, possibly due to unmetered air entering the engine, affecting the air/fuel mixture. The solution involved checking for cracks or damage to the manifold and ensuring the manifold sensor was secure. Ultimately, the intake manifold was replaced, resolving the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did a quick visual check, but nothing jumped out. What should I be looking for in terms of cracks or damage? Where is the manifold sensor located on this engine? What does 'unmetered air' mean? Sorry for the questions, but I'm trying to avoid mechanic scams.

Unmetered air is air entering the engine that hasn't been measured by the mass airflow sensor, throwing off the engine's air/fuel ratio. Check the manifold closely for hairline cracks, especially around the seams and where it connects to the engine head. The manifold sensor (MAP sensor) is usually mounted directly on the intake manifold. Given your symptoms, mileage, and no obvious issues, get it checked by a workshop. A smoke test can pinpoint small leaks. Expect a bill around 1180€.

Thanks a million for the advice! I took it to my local garage, and you were spot on. The intake manifold was leaking due to scorching. They replaced it, and now it's running great. Cost me 1180€, but at least the nightmare is over!

Those symptoms point towards a potential intake manifold issue. The jerking, reduced power, and rough running often indicate unmetered air entering the engine due to a leak. The error code is likely related to manifold pressure being outside the expected range. Have you checked for cracks or damage to the manifold or loose connections on the manifold sensor? A leaking gasket could also disrupt the air/fuel mixture.
