Navara diesel camshaft sensor issue

My 2019 Nissan Navara diesel with 162190 km starts poorly, idles erratically, and stalls. The check engine light is on. I suspect a defective camshaft sensor. Could a faulty encoder wheel on the camshafts be the problem? Any insights before I dive into diagnostics?

I had a similar issue with my 2015 BMW 3 series. Same symptoms: rough starts, stalling, and that dreaded check engine light! It turned out to be the camshaft position sensor. Is the engine misfiring?

It's hard to say if it's misfiring since it stalls at idle. Could you elaborate on the diagnostic steps you took to pinpoint the camshaft position sensor on your BMW?

I didn't have the equipment to diagnose it myself and took it directly to a mechanic for sensor testing. Given your Navara's symptoms, it might be best to seek professional help. A defective sensor or encoder wheel could be the issue, but a workshop will confirm.

I took your advice and visited my local mechanic. It turned out the encoder wheel on the camshafts was defective, which caused the camshaft sensor to fail. The final repair cost was 695€ Thank you for your help!
