Thanks for the quick reply! I've checked the wiring as best I can, but I'm no expert on auto repair – everything looks connected, I didn't observe any corrosion. The smoke is blackish, and it's not a crazy amount, but definitely noticeable, especially when I really step on the gas. Any ideas what I should be looking for more specifically?

Given the additional information you've furnished, particularly the presence of blackish smoke, it certainly reinforces the likelihood of a defective exhaust back pressure sensor influencing the engine's combustion dynamics. While further detailed inspections are certainly possible, given your relative unfamiliarity with sophisticated automotive diagnostics, I strongly recommend you seek counsel and assistance from a qualified workshop to conduct a full and proper diagnostic evaluation. This will likely prove more expeditious and cost-effective in the long run.

Appreciate the advice! Took it to a shop, and you were spot on - exhaust back pressure sensor was defective. Total repair came out to around 245€. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

It is unusual to experience exhaust back pressure sensor issues on a Navara of that vintage, particularly with a gasoline engine. Have you confirmed the sensor's wiring and connections are secure and free from corrosion? Also, could you describe the color and density of the smoke you observed when accelerating? This information could prove invaluable in determining the underlying issue.
