Navara reduced power warning light

I have a 2009 Nissan Navara with a diesel engine and 235901 km. Recently, I've been experiencing reduced engine power, a warning light, and poor starting. The lights are weak and flickering, and there's an error stored. Could a faulty generator be the cause? Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Sounds familiar. I've got a Navara too. Did you check the battery voltage? A weak battery can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins. A low voltage could definitely explain the reduced power and starting issues. Have you noticed any issues with the starter motor?

Thanks for the reply. I haven't checked the battery voltage specifically. Where should I measure the voltage, and what readings would indicate a problem? Is there any chance it's just a bad connection somewhere?

You can measure the voltage at the battery terminals. Ideally, you'd want to see around 12.6 volts with the engine off. If it's significantly lower, the battery might be the issue, or it's not being charged properly. While a bad connection is possible, given the symptoms and mileage, a defective generator is a strong possibility. I would advise visiting a workshop to get it checked properly.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the workshop, and you were right; the generator was defective. The repair cost me 960€, but at least the problem is sorted now.
