NBox Exhaust Leak Rough Running

My 2022 Honda NBox with a gasoline engine has a check engine light, rough running, concerning exhaust leak, and strong exhaust smell. Odometer reads 219619 km. I visually inspected the exhaust pipe, but nothing jumps out. Could this be related to the EGR valve or particulate filter? I'm worried about driving it.

Summary of the thread

The 2022 Honda NBox is experiencing a check engine light, rough running, exhaust leak, and strong exhaust smell. The issue may be related to the EGR valve or particulate filter, but a defective Lambda sensor is also a potential cause. The suggested solution is to have the vehicle diagnosed by a professional, as the Lambda sensor can affect the exhaust treatment system and lead to the symptoms described. Ultimately, the diagnosis confirmed a defective Lambda sensor, which was repaired at a cost of 375€.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I know exactly how you feel. I have an NBox too, and I had a similar issue not too long ago. Did you notice any change in your fuel consumption? Also, have you tried checking the Lambda sensor? If it's defective, it can cause problems with the exhaust treatment system.

Thanks for the quick reply! I appreciate the help. I have observed a slight increase in fuel consumption. I haven't checked the Lambda sensor specifically. Could you elaborate on how I might go about testing or inspecting it? What does the 'exhaust treatment system' do?

No worries, happy to help! The exhaust treatment system reduces harmful emissions. Think of things like the catalytic converter and the Lambda sensor. Checking the sensor yourself can be tricky without the right tools and knowledge. Given the symptoms, and especially with the exhaust leak, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. A defective Lambda sensor can cause the issues you're seeing, but it's best to get it diagnosed properly to avoid further damage. I hope this helps!

I appreciate the advice! I was hoping it would be a simple fix, but it seems like a trip to the mechanic is unavoidable. I'll mention the Lambda sensor to them. I took it to the workshop as you suggested. The diagnosis pointed to a defective Lambda sensor, just like you suspected! The repair cost came out to be around 375€. Thanks again for your help; you saved me a lot of headaches and potential misdiagnoses!
