Nissan 350Z PCV Valve Issue

Alright, my 2005 Nissan 350Z with the gasoline engine is acting up. Check engine light is on, feels like I'm driving with reduced power, and puffs of smoke come out when I accelerate. Scanner says something about crankcase ventilation, and I'm betting it's the PCV valve. Anyone else dealt with this? Is it DIY-able, or am I looking at a hefty bill?

Summary of the thread

The 2005 Nissan 350Z is experiencing reduced power, a check engine light, and smoke during acceleration, likely due to a PCV valve issue. The problem is confirmed by a crankcase ventilation error code. While cleaning the throttle body might address some symptoms, the PCV valve is identified as the main culprit. The recommended solution is to have the PCV valve replaced at a workshop to prevent further damage and restore the car's performance.

Sounds familiar. I've got a 350Z as well, though I can't remember what year it is, and I had similar issues: reduced power and some hesitation. I didn't notice smoke though. When was the last time you cleaned your throttle body? That can cause rough idle and reduced power, which might be related.

Hmm, haven't touched the throttle body. So you think that could cause all these issues, even the smoke? The smoke thing has me pretty spooked. Where exactly is the throttle body located and is there any specific cleaner to use or avoid? Thanks for the tip!

While cleaning the throttle body might help with some of the symptoms, especially idle issues, the smoke is a worrying sign, and the fact that you're getting a crankcase ventilation error code makes me think the PCV valve is definitely the culprit. My advice? Take it to a workshop. It'll save you time and potential headaches. My friend had a similar issue with his Z and ignoring the problem made things worse, costing him even more money in the long run.

Okay, thanks for the advice. Took it to a local workshop; you were right! Turns out the PCV valve was completely shot. They replaced it, and the check engine light is gone, the power is back, and no more smoke! Cost me about 360€, but worth it to have my Z back in fighting shape. Thanks for the help!
