Nissan Cube Generator Error

Hello, I have a 2011 Nissan Cube with a diesel engine. Recently, I've been experiencing some issues: reduced engine power, a warning light on the speedometer, poor vehicle starting, and weak/flickering lights. I also pulled the error codes and it showed an error related to the generator. Could this be a defective generator, or could low battery be the culprit?

Sounds like a bad alternator. Think of it like this: your battery is like a bucket that holds electricity, and the alternator is the pump that keeps that bucket full while the engine's running. If the pump is weak, the bucket empties, and everything electrical in the car starts acting weird, like your lights flickering and the engine struggling. How old is your battery?

The battery is about three years old, so not that old. However, your explanation makes sense. I'm just trying to confirm the error code. If it’s truly the generator/alternator, why would it also affect the engine power? Is there a direct link, or does the car's computer react to the electrical issues by limiting engine output?

The computer definitely gets involved. When the alternator starts failing, the voltage all over the car drops, and everything gets a bit haywire. It’s like your brain not getting enough sugar - things start shutting down to conserve power. The engine power is likely being limited by the ECU (Engine Control Unit) to try and keep essential systems running. With these symptoms, and the error codes pointing to the generator, I'd suggest taking it to a trusted mechanic. They'll be able to confirm the alternator is toast and get you a replacement. Better safe than stranded!

Thanks for the detailed explanation! I took it to my mechanic, and after testing, he confirmed the generator was faulty and needed replacement. Repair cost me 960€. Your analogy helped me understand the root cause and communicate better with the mechanic.
