Nissan Fuga CEL VANOS Issue

My 2011 Nissan Fuga, gasoline engine, is throwing a CEL. Mileage is 243986 km. Fuel consumption has also gone up. I suspect it's the VANOS on the inlet side. Camshaft solenoid valve, maybe? Power supply issue? Anyone seen this before?

The symptoms you describe align with a potential VANOS failure, specifically with the inlet camshaft. Has the check engine light illuminated consistently, or intermittently? Have you noticed any unusual engine noises, particularly at startup or idle? Has the vehicle undergone regular oil changes with the correct viscosity oil? Oil sludge can significantly impact VANOS performance.

The CEL is pretty consistent, comes on within a few minutes of driving. No odd noises that I can hear. Oil changes have been regular, yeah, but could sludge still be the culprit, even with that?

While regular oil changes mitigate the risk, sludge buildup remains a possibility, especially given the vehicle's mileage. However, considering the consistent CEL illumination and absence of unusual noises, a defective camshaft solenoid valve or a power supply interruption to the VANOS actuator are more probable. The most cautious approach would be to consult a qualified technician for a diagnostic evaluation. They can assess the electrical integrity of the VANOS system and determine the root cause with certainty.

Thanks for the input. Turns out it was indeed the camshaft solenoid valve. Cost me 250€ at the workshop, but the Fuga is running smooth again.
