Nissan Multi High Fuel Consumption Hard Start
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Nissan Multi is experiencing high fuel consumption and hard starting issues. The initial suspicion is on the throttle valve or accelerator pedal module. After a diagnostic, it is confirmed that the accelerator pedal module is faulty, leading to its replacement and resolving the problem.

The check engine light IS on. Cleaning the throttle body is on my list! Was the throttle position sensor part of the throttle body assembly on your Renault, or separate? If the sensor was faulty, why replace the sensor and not the whole throttle body?

On the Scenic, the throttle position sensor was integrated into the throttle body. I initially tried cleaning, but the problem kept returning. I had to change the complete throttle body assembly. Given your suspicions about the accelerator pedal module, which is separate, maybe get a proper diagnostic. A good workshop should pinpoint the problem. I'm pretty sure the root cause is the accelerator pedal module, so visit a workshop soon.

Okay, that's helpful! I'm leaning towards trusting my accelerator pedal module theory. Turns out, after a diagnostic, the accelerator pedal module was indeed faulty! 205€ later, it's fixed, and the Multi is running like new. Thanks for the advice!

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar thing happen with my old Renault Scenic. High fuel consumption and hard starts... turned out the throttle position sensor was wonky, messing with the fuel-air mixture. Is the 'check engine' light on? Have you tried cleaning the throttle body? If you suspect the accelerator pedal module, that's more complex.
