Nissan Multi Transmission Oil Pressure Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Nissan Multi is experiencing issues with the engine warning light and transmission light, linked to the transmission oil pressure sensor. The gearbox occasionally enters emergency mode, causing slippage, unclean shifting, and sometimes a grinding noise. A possible cause is low gearbox oil levels, which can affect sensor readings and trigger fault codes. Checking and topping up the oil level is suggested, but a visit to a workshop may be necessary for a permanent fix.

Thanks for the quick response. Can you explain how low oil levels affect the transmission oil pressure sensor readings and trigger fault codes? I want to understand the mechanism before I do anything.

Well, the oil acts as a hydraulic fluid, transmitting pressure throughout the gearbox. If the level is too low, the sensor can't get an accurate reading, kind of like trying to weigh something on scales that aren't properly balanced. Topping up the oil helped temporarily in my case, but the issue returned. Eventually, I had to visit a workshop to fix a small leak. Based on your description, you may want to visit a workshop.

Thanks for the insights, I'll inspect it and check the fluid levels as you suggested. Your hydraulics analogy really helps me understand the problem. I took it to a workshop and the issue is now resolved. The repair cost 365€.

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my old Saab 9-3. Almost identical symptoms – warning lights, weird shifting, the whole nine yards. Have you checked your gearbox oil level? That was the culprit in my case. The low oil level messed with the pressure readings from the sensor, triggering the fault codes. It's like trying to hear perfectly in a room when the volume is very low.
