Nissan Note Gearbox Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Nissan Note hybrid was experiencing gearbox issues, including warning lights, clunky shifts, and grinding noises. The problem was suspected to be related to the gearbox oil level or a faulty sensor. After checking, it was confirmed that the gearbox oil was low, causing the oil pressure sensor to malfunction. The issue was resolved by topping up the oil and resetting the error codes, restoring the car to proper working condition.

Thanks! I checked the engine oil, but not specifically the gearbox oil. Is that a separate reservoir? Is it easy to check myself, or does it need special tools or skills?

Yes, the gearbox oil is separate from the engine oil. Checking it properly can be a bit tricky depending on your mechanical skills and the specific setup. You might be able to find some guides online, but given the symptoms and the potential for damage if you get it wrong, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They can diagnose it properly and top up the oil if that's the issue, or identify any other problems with the oil pressure sensor or switch.

Okay, thanks! I took it to a local garage, and you were spot on. It was the gearbox oil level – really low! They topped it up, checked the sensor, and reset the error codes. Cost me 365€, but it’s running perfectly now. Turns out the oil pressure sensor was indeed faulty due to the low oil. Appreciate the help!

I had a similar problem with my Note. Those symptoms sound very familiar. Have you specifically checked the gearbox oil level? When my car was behaving like that, it turned out the gearbox oil was low, causing the oil pressure sensor to throw a fit. The pressure switch was doing its job, indicating low pressure, but the root cause was the oil level itself.
