Nissan NV VANOS Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Nissan NV is experiencing issues with the check engine light on and increased fuel consumption, suspected to be related to the inlet VANOS. The problem could be linked to a faulty camshaft solenoid valve or improper voltage supply. It is suggested to check the solenoid valves and their voltage, but if unsure, consulting a professional is recommended. The issue was confirmed to be a defective camshaft solenoid valve, which was repaired.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't noticed any significant power loss or misfires. How can I easily check the voltage at the solenoid? Do I need any special tools?

Okay, no misfires or power loss is good news. Checking the voltage at the solenoid isn't too difficult, but you'll need a multimeter. There are plenty of online guides showing how to backprobe the connector safely. But honestly, if you're not super comfortable with electrical testing, it might be best to have a shop take a quick look. They can diagnose it properly and save you a headache in the long run.

Appreciate the insight! I'll probably take it to a workshop to get it checked out. It was a defective camshaft solenoid valve, just like you said. Repair cost me about 250€.

It definitely sounds like it could be VANOS-related, especially with the increased fuel consumption. Has the engine been feeling down on power at all? Misfires at idle? I'd check the camshaft solenoid valves first. Also, confirm they're getting proper voltage. A faulty valve or bad power supply can definitely trigger those symptoms. Is it throwing any specific error codes?
