Nissan XTrail Diesel Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Nissan XTrail diesel is experiencing higher fuel consumption, engine stalling at idle, a check engine light, and excessive smoke when accelerating. These issues may be caused by a defective Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. A dirty air filter affecting sensor readings is also suggested as a potential cause. The recommended solution is to have the MAF sensor professionally diagnosed and possibly replaced.

Thanks for the quick reply! You mentioned MAF sensor failure. Was it showing the same symptoms? Also, did the check engine light come on?

Yep, all the same symptoms, especially the check engine light. I tried cleaning the sensor, but that didn't fix it. Ended up biting the bullet and getting it replaced at the workshop. Cost me about 365€, but at least it runs like new now. Honestly, best to just get it checked out professionally.

Appreciate the insight. I'll schedule an appointment with my mechanic to have the MAF sensor diagnosed and replaced. Thanks again for confirming my suspicions!

Sounds familiar! I've got a Nissan XTrail myself, and those symptoms scream MAF sensor failure. Have you checked your air filter lately? A dirty filter can mess with the sensor readings. Could be the culprit.
