Noise problem in cold weather with Renault Talisman Diesel 2020: suspected exhaust flap fault

Hey guys, I have a problem with my Renault Talisman Diesel, built in 2020. Recently, the engine sounds very loud when it's cold and the exhaust also sounds louder than usual. I suspect that it might have something to do with the exhaust flap. Have any of you had similar experiences and perhaps some tips on troubleshooting? How did you get the problem solved in the workshop and what were your experiences? Thanks in advance for your help!

Summary of the thread

A Renault Talisman Diesel 2020 is experiencing loud engine and exhaust noises in cold weather, suspected to be due to a faulty exhaust flap. This issue may develop gradually and become noticeable suddenly, as experienced by another Renault owner. The suggested solution is to have the exhaust flap checked and potentially replaced by a professional, as it is a relatively simple and inexpensive fix.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I have experienced a similar problem with my 2018 Renault Laguna. I'm not exactly a car fanatic, but I do have a bit of experience with cars. The problem I had was also a defective exhaust flap. My garage solved it quite easily. I paid 190 euros to have it repaired - it was the replacement of the exhaust flap. In similar cases, I would therefore recommend that you take the car to your garage and tell them about the exhaust flap. However, I need more information about your vehicle to be able to give you more details. What is the exact model and are there any additional symptoms?

Thanks for your answer, buddy. My Talisman now has a whopping 120781 km on the clock, and everything was still in order at the last service. Do you have any idea whether something like this develops gradually or could it happen from one day to the next?

Hey, you're welcome. Regarding your question, yes, it can develop gradually and then become noticeable from one day to the next. That's exactly how it was with my Renault Laguna. It definitely sounds like you have the same problem I had. Your mileage makes me think so too. I would advise you to have it checked by professionals to be on the safe side. It never hurts to be safe, right? Hopefully it's just the exhaust flap - it's not too expensive and fairly easy to replace. Good luck with that!

Hi, thanks again for your help. That sounds worrying, but I will follow your advice and take the car to the garage and have the exhaust flap checked to be on the safe side. It would be really lucky if it's just that and it's easy to fix. Thanks also for the tip about the creeping development, I hadn't considered that. I hope it hasn't affected the overall condition of my car too much. Keep your fingers crossed that it's nothing worse. I'll get back to you from the workshop and report back.
