Note diesel excessive smoke
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Nissan Note diesel with nearly 200,000 km is experiencing issues with the preheating lamp not switching off, the check engine light being illuminated, and excessive smoke during acceleration, particularly from a cold start. The suspected cause is a defective glow control unit, with potential issues in cable and plug connections. A diagnostic scan confirmed a fault in the glow control unit, and the problem was resolved by cleaning and replacing a defective plug connection at a local garage.

Cheers for the reply. Yep, I ran a scan and it's flagging up a glow control unit fault. Did the Peugeot throw the same code, or was it something different?

Different code, but the root cause was similar – corroded plug causing a bad connection. If the scan's pointing to the control unit and you've checked the wiring, might be time to get it checked by a workshop. Could save you chasing ghosts.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a local garage and you were spot on. It was indeed a defective plug connection on the glow control unit. They cleaned it up and replaced a small section of the wiring. Cost me 95€ all in. Appreciate the help!

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms with my old Peugeot – engine light, rough idling, and plumes of smoke on acceleration. Turned out to be a dodgy connection to the heating element. Have you run a diagnostic scan to pull the error codes?
