Novo oil pressure warning and engine noise
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Fiat Novo is experiencing an oil pressure warning light and loud engine noise, despite the oil level being adequate. Potential causes include a faulty oil pressure sensor or a more serious issue like a defective oil pump. The conversation suggests that while an oil change won't resolve a failing oil pump, the problem should be diagnosed by a professional. Ultimately, the workshop confirmed the oil pump was defective, aligning with the initial suspicion.

Thanks for the quick response! I hadn't thought about the oil pump itself. How did you diagnose that? Did you try an oil change first, and did it fix the problem? What about the engine bearings? I read that they can cause such a problem, too.

An oil change won't fix a failing oil pump, nor will a defective oil pressure sensor be the source of mechanical noises. Rule out the simple things, but prepare for the worst. Based on the age and mileage (167443 km), the pump is the most likely culprit. You would be best served by bringing your car to a trusted workshop for proper diagnosis. In my case the oil pump was defective.

Okay, I understand. Thanks for the advice! I'll take it to a workshop to get it checked. I also suspect the oil pump might be the problem and have prepared for the worst. The workshop has just called me and confirmed that the oil pump was defective. The repair cost will be 755€. Thanks again!

I had a similar issue with my Novo. The symptoms sound familiar. Have you considered that the oil pump may be faulty? Much like a heart needs to pump blood, the engine needs the oil pump to keep everything lubricated.
