NX Hybrid Wastegate Defect

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2021 Lexus NX hybrid. The check engine light comes on intermittently, and I've noticed a significant reduction in engine power, especially during acceleration. The engine response is sluggish, and on a couple of occasions, it has even stalled at idle. I've also observed higher fuel consumption than usual, accompanied by a distinct whistling noise, turning into loud hissing under acceleration. The car has roughly 34501 km on the clock. I suspect it might be related to a fault in the boost pressure system, possibly a defect in the wastegate valve. Has anyone else encountered similar symptoms with their NX?

Hey there! Your description sounds eerily familiar to an issue I had with my NX a while back. The whistling and hissing, combined with the loss of power, definitely points towards a boost problem. Have you checked the intercooler pipes for any leaks or damage? Also, might be worth taking a peek at the pressure sensor readings, if you have the means. In my case the check engine was also triggered!

Thanks for the quick response! I haven't specifically checked the intercooler pipes for leaks, but I will definitely add that to my list. Regarding the pressure sensor readings, is there a specific range I should be looking for, or any particular anomalies that would indicate a problem? Any insights on where exactly the wastegate is located and whether it's accessible for a visual inspection?

No worries! Honestly, without the proper equipment, diagnosing the pressure sensor readings can be tricky. As for the wastegate, it's buried pretty deep, and a visual inspection might not reveal much without disassembly. Given the symptoms and my past experience, I'd strongly recommend taking it to a reputable workshop with experience in hybrid systems. It sounds like your wastegate is failing, and you may risk further damage by driving with it. They can properly diagnose the issue and perform the necessary repairs.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to the local shop, and they confirmed a defect in the wastegate valve as suspected. Repair cost came to 860€, but at least it's fixed now!
