Status, Hello, I bought this BMW318i Touring 2010 last April, I have received the message 4 or 5 times so far that the engine oil pressure is too low. After I received the message the second time I went back to the garage and they kept it there for a week and drove about 200 km in 5 days without an error message. They did remove the oil pan but there was nothing to see, no metal shavings or plastic pieces from the timing chain rollers. So I took the car home again and drove 400 km in about 4 weeks and then I got the error message oil pressure too low again. Nothing can be heard from the engine itself, it runs like a charm, no noise. So I stopped the car for a while, started it again and the message disappeared again but after about 200 km the message came back, so what should I do, take the car back to the garage or is there another solution, maybe the problem is the oil pump or sensors that are no longer working properly, it drives wonderfully as I said. Kind regards, Huib van Hoorn

Hello Bubbles, Has the oil pressure been measured with a pressure gauge to see if the oil pressure is actually too low? The oil pressure switch itself is often defective in these engines. But before the oil pressure switch is replaced, the oil pressure should first be measured.

@carlyAdminBenny Hello, I have not measured the oil pressure with a pressure gauge, I also don't know how to do this so it will have to be done in a garage. I did do my my Carly Scanner that I received yesterday my first scan and it showed 11 problems including 2 critical and 6 severe problems, including also a critical report about the oil pressure with the report code 0030C1, and a critical report about the Oxygen sensor with the report code 002C31. The 6 severe reports were mainly about the Nitrogen-oxide sensor with the following report codes 002AF4, 002AF2, 002AF6, 002AF8, 002AF9. So what is wise, sell the car quickly because of the maybe high repair costs or go to the garage and maybe the repair costs are not too bad and I am worrying too much.

Hello, so what I would do with the errors first is to delete them all and carry out a test drive to see which errors come back. Because some of the errors could also be old errors that have already been repaired in the past. I would also advise you to have the problem with the oil pressure measured by a workshop, only then can you say more.

Going to do that Benny. Thanks so far.

Hello, My BMW series of 2011 displays the Oil light Red after driving about 15 minutes or having done 10 to 15 km. I stop and turn off the ignition, then restart, the light has disappeared and reappears after driving again 10 to 15 km. I'd heard that the oil pressure sensor was faulty, so I had it replaced. But the problem is still there. I've already had my BMW connected to the case, but the fault doesn't show up. I've just ordered the Carly box, maybe it will detect something. In the meantime, can you help me to see more clearly. Thanks in advance.

Hello Thierry, It's good that you've replaced the oil pressure sensor, but if the problem persists, it could be due to other reasons. It could be a failing oil pump, a blocked oil filter, or even low oil level. I would recommend checking the oil level and the condition of the oil filter. If these are fine, then it might be a good idea to have a mechanic inspect the oil pump. Remember, driving with low oil pressure can cause serious engine damage, so it's important to get this checked out as soon as possible. Please keep us updated on your progress.

Hello Andreas2906, The clattering noise you're hearing could be due to a number of reasons. It could be a loose belt, a failing pulley, or even an issue with the timing chain. I would recommend starting with the easiest checks first. Check the condition of your belts and pulleys. If these seem fine, it might be a good idea to have a mechanic inspect the timing chain. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any further questions?

Hello, The red oil light indicates low oil pressure, which could be due to a variety of reasons such as a failing oil pump, a blocked oil filter, or even low oil level. Since you've recently had work done on the oil pump, it's possible that there could be an issue there. As for the oil, the mechanic might have recommended 5W40 if he believes your engine needs a thicker oil. However, it's best to stick to the manufacturer's recommendation unless advised otherwise by a professional. I would suggest getting your car checked by a professional as soon as possible, as driving with low oil pressure can cause serious engine damage.
