Oil pressure warning lamp Citroen C4

I'm having a serious issue with my 2023 Citroen C4 diesel. The oil pressure warning lamp keeps lighting up, and I'm hearing some really nasty mechanical noises coming from the engine. I've got 119762 km on the clock. Could it be something simple like the oil filter clogged or am I looking at something worse, like engine bearings going bad? I'm kinda freaking out here!

Summary of the thread

A 2023 Citroen C4 diesel is experiencing an oil pressure warning light and mechanical noises, raising concerns about potential engine damage. Possible causes include a clogged oil filter or more severe issues like failing engine bearings. A similar case suggested that a faulty oil pump might be the culprit, and a professional inspection is recommended to prevent further damage.

Sounds worrying! I had a similar issue with my C4, though it's an older model. Same symptoms: oil pressure light and the engine sounding like a bag of spanners. Have you checked the oil level and condition? What about the oil pressure sensor or even the oil pressure gauge itself? It could be a faulty sensor giving false readings.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did check the oil level, and it seems fine. The oil itself looks okay too, not sludgy or anything. I haven't checked the oil pressure sensor or gauge though, honestly, I wouldn't even know where to start! Was your problem actually the oil pump in the end then?

Yeah, unfortunately, it turned out to be the oil pump. The garage confirmed it with a proper pressure test. Given your symptoms and mileage, it's highly likely you're facing the same issue. I'd strongly recommend getting it checked out by a professional ASAP before you cause any more damage. It's not a cheap fix, but running the engine with low oil pressure will destroy it.

Okay, thanks a lot for the advice. I was hoping it was something minor, but it sounds like I need to bite the bullet and take it to the workshop. At least now I have an idea of what to expect. The repair cost was 755€, but better to pay up now, than risk catastrophic failure down the road. Appreciate the help!
