Onix oil pressure warning light

I've got a 2020 Chevrolet Onix with a gasoline engine that's giving me some headaches. Lately, the oil pressure warning lamp keeps lighting up, and I'm also getting a warning light in the speedometer. The car has about 147480 km on it. I checked the oil, and it looks kinda sludgy and darker than usual. I'm thinking maybe it's just old oil, but I'm a bit worried. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Chevrolet Onix with a gasoline engine is experiencing an oil pressure warning light issue. The oil appears sludgy and darker than usual, suggesting it may be old or degraded. Possible causes include exceeding the maintenance interval, not changing the oil filter, or using the wrong oil type. The recommended solution is to take the car to a workshop for an oil and filter change, which resolved the issue and eliminated the warning lights.

I had something similar happen with my Onix. Check the oil color. If it looks like coffee with milk, you might have exceeded the maintenance interval by a lot. Has the oil filter been changed recently? Think of it like this: if you don't change your socks after a week, your feet will complain! Same with the car and its oil. Are you using the correct oil type and additives?

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm not sure about the oil type and additives; I usually just get whatever the shop recommends. The oil filter should have been changed at the last service, but now I'm second-guessing that. When you had the issue, did the oil look really dark and sludgy, like mine?

Yep, mine looked like thick, dark sludge. If your oil filter wasn't changed, or the wrong oil was used, that could definitely cause it. It's like trying to run a marathon with shoes two sizes too small. You'll get problems. With those km on the clock and the symptoms you described, I'd say get it to a workshop ASAP. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks a lot! I took your advice and brought it to a workshop. Turns out I had seriously exceeded the maintenance interval. They changed the oil, filter, and gave it a good flush. Cost me around 165€, but now the lights are gone and it's running smooth again. Appreciate the help!
