Optra automatic gearbox issues

Hey, I've got a 2015 Chevrolet Optra with a gasoline engine and I'm having some weird issues with the automatic gearbox. It's got 220k km on the clock. The paddle shifters don't work, the shifts are slipping and feel unclean, and I'm hearing grinding noises sometimes. They're also slow to respond when they do work, and the gearbox is stuck in emergency mode. An error code is also stored. Could it be the transmission control unit?

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Chevrolet Optra with 220,000 km is experiencing issues with its automatic gearbox, including non-functional paddle shifters, slipping and grinding noises, slow response, and being stuck in emergency mode. An error code suggests a potential problem with the transmission control unit (TCU). The control unit may be sending incorrect signals, causing these symptoms. A mechanic confirmed the TCU is likely defective and recommended replacement.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms in my Optra, though I didn't experience the paddle shifter issue as mine is not equipped with them. The slipping and grinding sounds are not a good sign. It could be the control module acting up. Think of it like a computer glitch affecting how the transmission operates.

Interesting. How did you figure out it was the control module? Was it hard to diagnose? Did you also get an error code related to it?

Yeah, the error code pointed toward it. Also, my mechanic used a diagnostic tool that showed the control module was sending incorrect signals. It's like the brain is telling the limbs to do the wrong thing. Best to get it checked at a trusted workshop; defective control units are sadly common in this gearbox.

Thanks! Seems like it's probably the control unit, like you said. I took it to the mechanic who also thinks the control unit is defective and needs replacing. They quoted me around 1000€ for the repair. At least I know what I'm dealing with now.
