Overheating and possible problems with the bypass valve in a 2014 Citroen DS5

Hey guys, I'm really worried about my 2014 Citroen DS5 with gasoline engine and already 27,011 km run. The car is constantly overheating and the indicator light is also on. I suspect that the bypass valve for the engine coolant might be faulty. I had massive problems with my garage last time. Have any of you ever had similar problems with your car and can tell me how it went in the workshop? Would be super grateful for your experiences!

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Citroen DS5 is experiencing constant overheating, with suspicions pointing towards a faulty engine coolant bypass valve. A similar issue in a 2017 Citroen C5 Aircross was resolved by replacing a defective cable connection to the bypass valve and testing the valve itself. The solution involved identifying and fixing the faulty cable, ensuring the valve's functionality, and resulted in smooth operation post-repair. Immediate attention is advised to prevent further damage.

Hello, I had similar symptoms with my 2017 Citroen C5 Aircross. It turned out that the cable connection to the coolant bypass valve was faulty. This is quite a serious problem as it can cause the valve to stop working properly and the engine to overheat. In the workshop, they had to find the defective cable and replace it. They also had to test the bypass valve itself to make sure it was still working. It was quite a big job and took some time, but it solved the problem and my car has been running smoothly ever since. Take care of your car and get it checked immediately before any major damage is done.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience with your C5 Aircross. That sounds really stressful and complicated. Can you remember what you had to put on the table to get it all fixed? And have you had any other issues come up since then?

Hey, no problem, always happy to help. So, I had to fork out €155 to repair the broken cable connection to the coolant bypass valve. It wasn't exactly a bargain, but it got everything running again. And since the visit to the mechanic, everything has been running smoothly again, the engine coolant bypass valve malfunction has been fixed and there was no more stress afterwards. So to be honest, I'd say it was worth it in the end. I hope it goes just as smoothly for you!

Dude, 155€ is really hefty, but if it helps, it's worth it. Thanks for your experience, man! I'll give the garage a call and make an appointment. Hopefully it will go as smoothly for me. And hopefully it's just the valve and not any major damage... Heavens, car problems can really ruin your day, or rather weeks. Keep your fingers crossed for me, guys!
