Paceman Passenger Seat Issue

Alright, I'm officially stumped. My 2015 Mini Paceman diesel has developed a weird issue. The passenger electric seat is completely unresponsive. There's an error stored, but no seat adjustment is possible at all. My mechanic reckons a heavily discharged or defective battery is the likely cause, but that sounds bizarre to me. Anyone else experienced anything similar?

Strange one. I had a similar issue with my Paceman, although it was a while back. The passenger seat wouldn't budge, and I recall something about a stored error too. Have you checked the battery? That was the culprit in my case. How old is yours? Also, maybe have a look at the seat harness underneath the seat. Sometimes they can get loose or damaged.

Interesting, so your seat was completely dead too? Was it an obvious issue with the battery, or did it take some digging to figure out? I'll check the seat harness as you suggested, but I'm not the most mechanically inclined. Any pointers on what to look for?

Yep, completely dead. No movement whatsoever. It wasn't immediately obvious with the battery, the car started fine, but I guess the seat needs more juice. I'm no expert, but from what I remember they did a load test and it failed. Honestly, unless you're comfortable fiddling with electrics, I'd get it checked out by someone who knows what they're doing. Automotive seats have a fair amount of wiring going on.

Big thanks for sharing your experience! Just got it back from the shop. Turns out it was indeed related to the battery being on its last legs. New battery and a check of the seat harness later, and the seat adjustment is working perfectly again. The error memory is clear too. Cost me 290€ in the end. Glad it wasn't anything more serious with the seat motor or the seat switch.
