Palio Cruise Control Failure
Summary of the thread
The 2006 Fiat Palio's cruise control stopped working, and diagnostics indicated an error in the cruise control system. While fuses were checked and found to be fine, potential causes include a faulty pedal switch or a defective speed sensor. Another possibility, suggested by a similar case with an Opel Astra, is a defective clock spring behind the steering wheel, which could disrupt electrical continuity to the cruise control system. It is recommended to have a workshop inspect the clock spring and related connections to resolve the issue.

That's interesting about the clock spring. I'm not sure if my Palio uses one, but it's worth looking into. How did you diagnose the fault in your Astra? Did you notice other symptoms besides the cruise control failure, like dashboard light issues or other electrical problems?

In my Astra, the cruise control light flickered before failing. The garage used diagnostics to pinpoint an electrical fault in the clock spring. I thought it was the pedal switch, but the error pointed to the steering wheel. Given your error and similar symptoms, have a workshop examine the clock spring and connections. The repair was around 100€.

Thanks for the help. I'll schedule a workshop appointment to inspect the clock spring and components. A faulty clock spring, cable, or plug seems likely. Your Opel Astra experience gave me a direction for fixing this Fiat issue. The final invoice for the service was 95€.

I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra. The cruise control malfunctioned, and it was a defective clock spring behind the steering wheel. It maintains electrical continuity to systems in the steering wheel, including cruise control switches. A broken cable or loose plug could cause the dashboard light to not illuminate and generate that error. Does the Palio use a clock spring?
