Palio SOS System Failure

Hi, I have a 2000 Fiat Palio with a gasoline engine and I'm experiencing issues with the emergency call system. The error is stored in the error memory, and I'm also getting an error message and a warning light in the speedometer. I've checked the obvious things, but suspect it might be a defective cable or plug connection. Anyone else had this?

Summary of the thread

A 2000 Fiat Palio is experiencing an 'SOS system failure' error, indicated by a warning light and stored error message. The issue may stem from a defective cable, plug connection, or possibly a control module problem. Suggested solutions include scanning for diagnostic codes and performing a system reset using a diagnostic tool, rather than disconnecting the battery. Taking the car to a workshop for a professional diagnostic is recommended to accurately identify and resolve the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I have a Palio as well, and I had a similar issue with the emergency call system a while back. Was the error message something like 'SOS system failure'? When that happened to me, it turned out to be a control module issue. Have you scanned for specific diagnostic codes? Knowing those could help narrow down the problem. Also, did you try a simple system reset? Sometimes that can clear up minor glitches.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the error message is 'SOS system failure'. I haven't scanned for diagnostic codes yet, but I'll try to do that. By 'system reset,' do you mean disconnecting the battery, or is there a specific procedure for the emergency call system?

Okay, 'SOS system failure' sounds very familiar. Regarding the reset, I meant more of a diagnostic tool based reset, not disconnecting the battery. Disconnecting the battery might work in a pinch, but it's not the ideal way. Given you're getting a persistent error and warning light, I'd strongly recommend getting the diagnostic codes read by a workshop. A defective cable or plug connection is possible, but it might be deeper than that. It cost me 95€ at the end.

Thanks for the detailed advice. I'll take it to a workshop and get the diagnostic codes read. Hopefully, it's just a cable or plug, but I'm prepared for it to be the control module. Seems like the fastest route.
