Palio tail lights electrical fault

Experiencing a strange electrical fault with my 2007 Fiat Palio diesel. The tail lights sometimes switch on by themselves, and the dashboard lights flicker occasionally. The mechanic read an error pointing to the light switch. Could this be related? Mileage is at 187428 km. Any ideas before I spend a fortune?

Sounds like a frustrating issue. I had something similar happen with my old car. Have you checked the fuse box? A faulty fuse could cause weird electrical behavior like that. Also, wiggle the headlight switch and see if that affects anything. It might just be a loose connection.

Thanks for the suggestion! Where exactly is the fuse box located on the Palio? And if it's a loose connection, is it something I can fix myself, or will I inevitably need to visit a workshop?

Fuse box location should be in your owner's manual, or a quick online search should show you. As for the connection, if you're comfortable with basic car electrics, you could try checking the plugs and cables around the switch. But honestly, if it's intermittent and causing errors, it might be best to have a professional take a look. Could save you headaches in the long run. I was quoted 95€ for something like this.

Thanks a lot! I think I'll try checking the fuses first, but you're right, it probably needs a professional. At least now I know it is likely a cable or plug connection and I will be able to describe the problem better at the workshop. Thanks again!
