Palisade transmission oil pressure sensor fault

Hi, I have a 2018 Hyundai Palisade diesel with 133452 km. The engine warning light is on, and the error memory shows a transmission oil pressure sensor fault. Now the gearbox is in emergency mode, slips sometimes, and makes a grinding noise when shifting. I checked for external leaks but found nothing obvious. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Hyundai Palisade diesel exhibited a transmission oil pressure sensor fault, causing the engine warning light to activate and the gearbox to enter emergency mode, with slipping and grinding noises during shifts. The issue was identified as a low transmission oil level, which was confirmed after checking for external leaks. The solution involved taking the vehicle to a workshop where the transmission oil was topped up, the sensor was replaced, and error codes were reset, resolving the problem.

Wow, that sounds eerily familiar! I also own a Palisade and experienced similar transmission issues last year. The symptoms are like a bad song stuck on repeat, aren't they? Did you check the transmission oil level? That was the culprit in my case. It was surprisingly low.

Thanks for the quick reply! Where exactly did you check the transmission oil level? Is there a dipstick, or do you need special equipment? I'm not a mechanic, but I'm willing to try.

Okay, so on my Palisade, there's no dipstick for the transmission fluid. It's one of those 'sealed' systems. You need to access a specific plug, usually on the side of the transmission, and honestly, it's a bit of a pain without the right tools and knowledge. Given the emergency mode and grinding, I'd really suggest taking it to a workshop. Low oil could be the cause, but driving it like that might make things worse. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were right – the transmission oil level was indeed too low. They topped it up, replaced the sensor, and reset the error codes. Cost me 365€, but everything is working smoothly again. Appreciate your help!
