Panamera Diesel's Ad-Blue System Issues: Warning Signs Alert

Hey there, I'm having trouble with my 2017 Panamera Diesel showing multiple warnings. CEL is on, DPF won't regenerate, and there's a warning light in the speedo cluster. I suspect low Ad-Blue system pressure might be the cause. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual problem and how did your mechanic fix it? Any input would be appreciated!

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Panamera Diesel is experiencing multiple warning signs, including a check engine light, DPF regeneration issues, and a warning light in the speedometer cluster. The suspected cause is low Ad-Blue system pressure, potentially due to a faulty Ad-Blue tank unit. A similar issue in a 2014 Cayenne Diesel was resolved by replacing the tank unit, which fixed the warnings and DPF issues. The suggested solution is to have the Ad-Blue system checked by a mechanic familiar with Porsche diesels to prevent further damage.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey! I have some experience with diesel engines. Had a similar issue with my 2014 Cayenne Diesel last winter. Those symptoms sound very familiar, I was getting the same warning combo. Turned out my Ad-Blue tank was faulty, causing system pressure problems. My regular workshop diagnosed it and had to replace the entire tank unit. Set me back about 1,620€, but it fixed everything, no more CEL or DPF issues since then. What's your mileage? And have you noticed any Ad-Blue consumption changes lately? These details would help understand if you're facing the same problem I had.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My mileage is currently at 50087 KM, and I just had my service done last month. I've actually noticed the Ad-Blue consumption has increased quite a bit over the last few weeks. That's interesting about your Cayenne having similar symptoms, might be worth checking the tank unit then. Did you notice any other warning signs before the complete failure? And was the repair time long at your workshop?

Hey again! Yes, thinking back to my Cayenne's issues, I did notice some warning signs before the complete failure. The Ad-Blue consumption increase you're mentioning was definitely one of them, mine started gulping it down like crazy about a month before everything went haywire. The other thing I remember was occasional stuttering during acceleration, especially when the engine was cold. Don't know if you've experienced that? It wasn't super obvious at first, but looking back, it was definitely a sign something was up. The repair at my workshop took about 2 days, they had to order the part first, but once they got it, the actual work wasn't too long. Just make sure you go to someone who knows their way around Porsche diesels, these Ad-Blue systems can be tricky. Given your symptoms and the increased Ad-Blue consumption, it really sounds like you're dealing with the same issue I had. The fact that it's happening right after a service is probably just coincidental timing. If I were you, I'd get it checked out soon before it potentially causes any DPF damage, that's what I wish I'd done earlier with mine! Let me know how it goes if you get it checked out. Always curious to hear if others have similar experiences with these engines.

Wow, this is super helpful! Actually, now that you mention it, I have noticed some slight stuttering during cold starts, but I hadn't connected the dots until now. I'll definitely get it checked out this week, don't want to risk any DPF damage like you said. My regular mechanic specializes in Porsches, so hopefully, they can diagnose and fix it quickly. Two days for the repair doesn't sound too bad either. Thanks again for all the detailed info, really helped me understand what I might be dealing with. I'll keep you posted on what my mechanic finds. Fingers crossed it's just the tank unit and nothing more serious!
