Panda EGR Valve Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Fiat Panda with a diesel engine is experiencing a check engine light, reduced power, smoke during acceleration, rough running, increased fuel consumption, jerking, and a loud hissing noise. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the EGR valve, possibly due to soot accumulation. It is recommended to seek professional assistance for diagnosis and repair, as this resolved similar issues for another owner.

Yes, it's definitely gotten worse over the last few weeks. It feels exactly like it's struggling, especially when I'm trying to get up to speed. What exactly was wrong with your Panda? Did you manage to fix it yourself, or did you take it to a mechanic?

In my case, it turned out to be a defective EGR valve, almost certainly caused by soot accumulation. Given the symptoms you describe, the diagnosis seems probable. Considering the complexity of the exhaust gas recirculation system and the specialized tools often required, I would recommend seeking professional assistance. The repair set me back 355€ at the workshop, but it resolved all of the issues.

Thanks a lot for the info! Sounds like it's almost certainly the EGR valve. I'll book it into the workshop and get it sorted. Hopefully, it'll fix everything. Cheers!

I had similar issues with my Panda. Reduced engine power, rough idle, the whole shebang. Does it feel like it's struggling to breathe, especially at lower speeds? The smoke is a definite warning sign. It could very well be the EGR valve, especially with those symptoms. Has it been getting worse gradually?
