Panda preheating lamp check engine light

Hey, I've got a 2012 Fiat Panda, diesel engine, and I'm having a weird issue. The preheating lamp won't switch off, and the check engine light is now constantly on. Also, I'm noticing some smoke when accelerating, which isn't ideal. I've checked the obvious stuff, but I'm thinking it might be the glow control unit. Anyone else experienced anything similar? Could be a defective cable or plug connection?

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Fiat Panda with a diesel engine exhibited issues with the preheating lamp not switching off and the check engine light remaining on, accompanied by smoke during acceleration. The suspected cause was a malfunctioning glow control unit, possibly due to defective cables or plug connections. After a thorough inspection and professional diagnosis, the glow control unit was confirmed to be faulty and was replaced, resolving the problem.

Greetings. Your issue bears a striking resemblance to a problem I encountered previously with my Opel Astra, albeit a petrol variant. The symptoms you describe, particularly the persistent illumination of the preheating and check engine indicators, coupled with the emission of smoke during acceleration, suggest a potential malfunction within the engine management system. Did you consider a thorough inspection of all electrical connections associated with the glow control unit?

Interesting, thanks! When you say 'thorough inspection,' what exactly did that involve for you? What kind of defective electrical connection did you find?

Within the context of my aforementioned Opel Astra, "thorough inspection" encompassed a meticulous examination of all wiring harnesses, connectors, and grounding points linked to the engine control unit. This protocol was executed to identify any instances of corrosion, fraying, or dislodgement that may impede optimal electrical conductivity. Ultimately, my investigation proved fruitless, and I conceded to engaging the services of a certified automotive technician, who promptly diagnosed a faulty control unit. May I recommend a similar course of action for your consideration?

Thanks for the advice! Took it to the shop and you were right, the glow control unit was indeed defective, just like we suspected. They replaced it, new one cost 95€ including labor. Everything's running smoothly now!
