Fuel consumption seems slightly higher. No unusual noises, just the symptoms described earlier. Is the DPF itself likely faulty, or could something else cause these issues?

Considering the symptoms and increased fuel consumption, a defective exhaust back pressure sensor is a strong possibility, causing these DPF-related errors. I'd suggest getting it checked at a workshop.

It was the exhaust back pressure sensor, as you suspected. Repair cost 245€. Glad it's resolved.

A warning light, reduced power, smoke, and a strong smell? Sounds like your exhaust system is struggling. Have you noticed any changes in fuel consumption, or unusual noises coming from the exhaust?
